Arlington County Snow Update As you might have seen, County snow operations are well underway with a force of several hundred people working in shifts to maintain core services. For the next few days, at least, we’ll have crews working literally around the clock. As of Monday afternoon, crews are in Phase 2, meaning they’re focused on clearing primary and secondary arterials. Residential streets are part of Phase 3. More info on the Show Removal Phases and Process can be found online.Obviously, our goal is always to clear snow from all streets and County trails as soon as possible, but following a severe snowstorm like this – and the below-freezing temperatures – it may take 48 hours or more after the snow stops falling before County plows can realistically get to residential streets. And even after treatment, remember that residential streets may only be passable with one lane, and you may not see bare pavement yet. Here are a few things to note and share:Check the Snow Activity Map: Everyone can follow along in the Snow Activity Map and watch the plows move around the County in near real-time. And the map has been updated this year with the new plow names from our community, including Plowy McPlowface, Blizzard of Oz, and The Life of a Snowgirl.A Note to Property Owners: We’re asking all property owners to please do their part to keep our community safe and accessible by promptly clearing snow and ice from public sidewalks adjacent to your property, as you can. The County’s snow removal ordinance requires all Arlington property owners to clear snow and ice from public sidewalks adjacent to their property within a designated time period. Due to the current weather conditions, the Arlington County Manager has suspended enforcement of the snow removal ordinance. But we all still have a responsibility in our walkable community to provide clear, safe roadways and pedestrian routes to ensures access to jobs, schools, and services. Where it is practical, please do what you can to help to keep Arlington’s sidewalks safe, accessible, and welcoming for everyone.Neighbors Helping Neighbors: You can volunteer to help! Reach out to your civic association to find out how you can help assist elderly neighbors or neighbors with disabilities, and facilitate winter weather preparedness. Check for Updates: As the storm progresses, check for updates on the County website and social media. You’ll also be able to find the snow issues form which will open only after snowfall has ended – that’ll be the best place to submit any lingering issues. We encourage you all to share this information with your communities.Thank you, all! And stay safe.Sarah Tracey (she/her/hers)Director of Public EngagementArlington County Manager’s OfficeOffice: 703-228-3269Cell: 703-987-1869[email protected]
